About Us

About Our Chapter

“The International Association of Administrative Professionals is an organization that has been around for a long time.  It was first called Secretaries International.  It then changed its name to Professional Secretaries International and a few years ago it again changed it’s name to identify with the many professions it now encompasses.

The Elmira chapter began in 1950 as the Glider City Chapter and as it grew, members from the Corning area branched off and formed the Corning chapter.  In 2000 the Elmira and Corning chapters joined together to form the Elmira Corning Chapter.

The Elmira Corning Chapter is a very active group of administrative professionals from a variety of businesses.  Membership meetings are currently held every other month at the Big Flats Community Center  They include a social hour, dinner and a program with speakers of interest for our profession.  We have participated in Relay For Life, have held a spring craft fair for the past 20 plus years and host a luncheon for administrative professionals during Administrative Professionals Week.  In 2000 we hosted IAAP’s division meeting in Corning.

One third of our members hold the Certified Professional Secretary title while half of those also hold the Certified Administrative Professional title.  In the past we have held educational classes for those interested in taking the Certified Professional Secretary and Certified Administrative Professional exams that are given in November and May every year.”
